Classic Lasagna with Ricotta and Meat Sauce is a comforting and hearty dish that brings warmth and satisfaction to any table. This delightful recipe features layers of rich meat sauce made from ground beef, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella cheese, creating an unforgettable flavor experience.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley or basil
  • 12 lasagna noodles (cooked al dente, or use oven-ready)
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Extra Parmesan for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion until cooked through. Drain excess fat and add minced garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and seasonings. Simmer for 25–30 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and parsley until creamy.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer meat sauce on the bottom followed by noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers for a total of 3–4 layers.
  5. Top with remaining meat sauce and mozzarella. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden.
  6. Let rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
