  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chicken hamburger seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (divided)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut off the tops of the onions and hollow them out, leaving about half an inch intact.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter with 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the hollowed onions with salt until soft and browned (10–15 minutes).
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, chicken hamburger seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce; mix well.
  5. Stuff each onion with the beef mixture and place in a baking dish. Drizzle with remaining olive oil and top with shredded Gruyere cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
