Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup salted butter (1 stick)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 14 oz can evaporated milk (warmed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1012 small/medium Granny Smith apples
  • craft sticks
  • parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Prep the apples: Rinse and scrub the apples under hot water, then chill them in the refrigerator.
  2. Make the caramel: In a heavy-bottom saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and corn syrup over medium heat. Stir until boiling, then gradually add warmed evaporated milk while stirring constantly. Cook until it reaches 235-240°F using a candy thermometer.
  3. Prepare for dipping: Dry the apples thoroughly and insert craft sticks into each apple.
  4. Dip the apples: Once caramel cools to about 200°F, dip each apple in caramel, allowing excess to drip off before placing on parchment paper.
  5. Add toppings: While caramel is still warm, sprinkle desired toppings.
  6. Finish up: Repeat with remaining apples and refrigerate for up to two weeks.
