  • 1/2 cup full fat cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup dark cocoa powder – for decoration
  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream – for decoration
  • 1 cup coarse sanding sugar
  • 48 orange sweetheart or conversation heart candies, cut in half
  • Round flat black sprinkles
  • Round flat pink sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat unsalted butter and cream cheese until creamy.
  3. Gradually add granulated sugar; mix until fluffy, then add egg and vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch.
  5. Combine wet and dry mixtures until dough forms.
  6. Scoop dough into balls, flatten slightly on baking sheets 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for about 13 minutes or until set but soft in the center; cool on wire racks.
  8. For frosting, beat butter until smooth; gradually mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and cream until fluffy.
  9. Decorate cookies as desired using frosting and candies.
