Ingredients

Scale
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 10-ounce bag mini marshmallows
  • 5 1/4 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon blue gel food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • 1/4 cup mixed red, white and blue sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare a 9-by-9-inch baking dish by lining it with aluminum foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang. Spray lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. For the blue layer: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 tablespoon butter and about 2 cups marshmallows. Microwave until melted (about 60 seconds). Stir in blue gel food coloring and mix in 1 3/4 cups crispy rice cereal. Press into the prepared dish.
  3. For the white layer: Repeat melting process with another tablespoon each of butter and marshmallows. Mix in another 1 3/4 cups cereal and press on top of the blue layer.
  4. For the red layer: Melt remaining butter and marshmallows in a bowl, add red gel food coloring, then mix in the last portion of cereal. Spread on top of the white layer.
  5. While warm, sprinkle mixed sprinkles on top and press gently to adhere.
  6. Allow to set for about 30 minutes before lifting out using foil overhang and cutting into squares.
