  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons whole milk
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10×15 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add water and cocoa powder; bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together sour cream and eggs until combined.
  4. In a stand mixer bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt until blended. Add the sour cream mixture.
  5. Once cooled slightly, add the chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients; mix until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Meanwhile, prepare frosting by boiling milk, cocoa powder, and butter in a saucepan. Remove from heat; stir in confectioners sugar and vanilla until smooth. Fold in pecans.
  8. Spread warm frosting over the baked cake immediately after removing from the oven.
